The CORD Programme

Introduction

Rugby is a full contact, physically and mentally demanding sport played by millions of individuals around the World. The International Rugby Board (the sports global governing body) identifies five social and emotional concepts that are core to the game:

  • INTEGRITY: Integrity is central to the fabric of the Game and is generated through honesty & fair play.
  • PASSION: Rugby people have a passionate enthusiasm for the Game. Rugby generates excitement, emotional attachment and a sense of belonging to the global Rugby family.
  • SOLIDARITY: Rugby provides a unifying spirit that leads to life long friendships, camaraderie, teamwork and loyalty which transcends cultural, geographic, political and religious differences.
  • DISCIPLINE: Discipline is an integral part of the Game, both on and off the field, and is reflected through adherence to the Laws, the Regulations and Rugby’s core values.
  • RESPECT: Respect for team mates, opponents, match officials and those involved in the Game is paramount.

The sport of rugby requires and engenders commitment, loyalty, leadership, decision-making, self-confidence, self-control, teamwork, camaraderie, and a will to contribute and succeed. It demands physical and mental strength. It builds character and allows its players, males and females, to better themselves within a controlled yet demanding sporting environment.

CORD’s Vision:

“Through rugby, and all that rugby stands for, turn around the lives of less fortunate children and young adults in order to ultimately turnout confident, well-rounded, team-orientated and capable young people who will contribute positively to the Singapore community.”

CORD’s Mission Statement:

“Through rugby, expose player participants to the principals of Integrity, Passion, Solidarity, Discipline and Respect that they will be able to take with them through life, building strong personal foundations and giving them a clear direction for their future.”
